When it comes to defense, there are three areas to consider:
- Do I have freedom to protect myself?
- What are the security risks in an area?
- What strategic locations help reduce the security risks?
In America, self defense options come down to state laws. Some states respect the 2nd Amendment, and some states try to remove it. Redoubt states are among the best of those that respect the 2nd Amendment. For details, check out our page on 2nd Amendment liberties.
When it comes to broad risk assessment, we currently share three resources to support your research.
First, FBI crime stats give you an impression of crime problems in an area. Beware of simply looking at numbers without digging into possible causes for those numbers. Here, we point you to the official source, along with some cautions to make sure you get a full picture of what the numbers might indicate.
Next, Sanctuary Cities represent jurisdictions that openly defy the law, to their own citizens’ loss. No such jurisdiction exists within the American Redoubt, but certain border areas may carry a higher risk than others based on where these lie in neighboring states. Look here for more info.
Next, large, dense populations of unprepared people represent a security risk in the event of a major disaster. Civilization is typically 9 meals away from total anarchy (based on average US household food supply). We share an excellent dynamic map showing population density, and a twin tool from the same designers which shows voting results as well. High numbers of voting big-government advocates represent a long term risk you may want to avoid. For the pair of amazing interactive maps, see this resource.
There may be other good reasons to choose an area with slightly higher risk. How can topographic features reduce your exposure to local and regional security risks? Check out our Northern Redoubt Strategic Map Resource.
