Some recent advice from a Florida Sheriff shows that America hasn’t slipped as far into delusion as Britain and Europe. But the reactions illustrate a key fantasy of the left.
This is a follow-on to my recent post, British Islamophobia. Give that a quick read if you haven’t yet.
So, about two weeks ago, a workplace shooting in Orlando which killed 5 prompted a local sheriff to post footage of that and the Pulse nightclub shooting in a video encouraging citizens to arm themselves.
Here are some of the highlights [emphasis added in italics]:
“Folks, now more than ever is the time for our citizens to be prepared to serve as the first line of defense, not only for them, but for their families…
What’s next is to fully understand that this is war, and you better be prepared to wage war to protect you, your family, and those around you if attacked…”
Ivey stressed that attackers rely on people running, hiding, and waiting for help, rather than fighting back.
And what was it that the British police advised right after the London Bridge attack as the best strategy to deal with violent attackers?
Leftists responded predictably to the Florida Sheriff’s well intentioned advice, “calling it “fear-mongering” and encouraging vigilantes.”
Keep in mind that the typical leftist has never explored any logic or thought outside of their own emotional belief system. That’s why your ability to reason through a belief system (even one you completely disagree with) must mean you secretly support that belief system.
The typical leftist also projects…constantly. Most times when the hurl an insult, especially the ones that make no sense, they are picking out an insult that makes sense to them or terrifies them and figuring it would hurt you just as much as it would hurt them.
So, when they accuse a reasonable safety message about self-defense as “encouraging vigilantes” it’s because vigilantism is EXACTLY what they would do if they armed themselves, much like the leftist who recently attended the congressional baseball game.
And when they criticize the reasonable message of self defense as “fear-mongering” it’s because fear-mongering is exactly the sort of tactic they would use to encourage action.
For years, I was stumped by a leftist response in a debate I participated in, until I came to understand the leftist proclivity for projection. On the subject of belief systems and human nature, I presented a reasoned argument and as one support provided some quotes from Viktor Frankl, a world-renowned psychiatrist giving his professional opinions of the psychosis that led to the Nazi death camps based on his first hand experience in them. The argument bounced off the leftist’s skull and his only comeback was “Way to pluck the heart strings with mention of the holocaust there.” I couldn’t understand where he ever got the idea that I had presented an emotional appeal. Projection finally explained it. Whenever they mention the holocaust, it is only in a context meant to provoke bad-feels. So if I mention it, that must be the only reason, because how can anyone have different thinking patterns than the self-absorbed leftist?
Cartoons versus Reality
So why the feature image?
If you weren’t aware, SJW’s at Wall Street installed a statue of a little girl defiantly staring down the Wall Street bull, to celebrate International Women’s Day this year.
But what’s wrong with the picture, if it were reality?
The little girl did not just pull out an enormous firearm from the folds of her dress.
She is not about to break into Hollywood martial arts moxie and judo-chop the bull into unconsciousness.
Instead, her stance and face boldly declare, “I’m not afraid of you!” as if she just came from a candle-lit vigil held for all the victims of the bull.
This sort of thing only works in cartoons. The child-hero has an epiphany and declares that she is not afraid of the villain. The villain stops laughing maniacally and twirling his moustache, puts down the bomb, and suddenly rethinks all his bad turns in life and regrets his evil ways.
For anyone who attended public school back before government and medical and school experts took “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest” as inspiration for dealing with trouble-makers, how did one successfully deal with a bully?
If a kid at your school stepped up to a bully twice their size and boldly declared “I’m not afraid of you!” like the little girl on Wall Street, did the bully suddenly give up his evil ways and become big friendly teddy bear?
Or did the defiant child get an atomic wedgie and an afternoon of contemplation in their locker?
Likewise, in real life, Wall Street Girl is about to be mulched into the pavement by ten tons of testosterone-soaked muscle on a ‘roid-raging bull. Is that bull about to flee in terror? Or is he just sizing her up to make sure she doesn’t have a chance to step out of the way.
So now the media is drooling over the fact that “a white man” finally engaged in an act of terror. Only took 16 years of women and children being blown up and hacked up with machetes on the homeland with no serious counter-action from the government.
And here I thought he might pass for “a man of European Origin” or some other vague pleasantry to avoid fanning the flames.
Don’t know why this guy decided he needed to engage in vigilantism. After all, the city has held countless candle-lit vigils for victims of terrorism to show those terrorists that they are not afraid of them. And after the last round, the Prime Minister finally stepped up and announced a bold move to crack down on internet free speech to prevent further terrorist attacks.
Maybe if he’d taken a lesson from Wall Street girl, he could have just stood outside the mosque and stared defiantly until all the evil-doers fled back to their homelands upon seeing how not-scared he was.
I’m glad I live in America, where I still have the option to arm myself, just in case. I don’t need a firearm to preemptively shoot everyone who gives me a funny look. It provides an option of last resort to deter a violent attacker who won’t turn around when I try Wall Street Girl’s defiant look.
The guy in Britain speaks to the growing desperation of a people who’s government continuously refuses to protect them. Even in Ayn Rand’s minimal government under objectivism, the sole purpose of government is use of force to protect the people: armies to defend from external threats, police to defend from internal threats, and courts to mediate disputes between citizens.
And ancient wisdom from over 2000 years ago observed:
For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.
So what happens when the rulers cease to execute wrath on those practicing evil and instead punish those who do good while rewarding those who do evil? What becomes of those who call evil good, and good evil?
One answer led to the founding of America. There are many other, far bloodier chapters of human history illustrating time and again what happens when a government ceases to protect its constituents.
